Newstead Wood School (originally named Orpington Grammar School for Girls) opened in September 1954, in response to the rapid growth of Orpington and Petts Wood over the previous forty years. The first single form entry school was housed temporarily at Midfield Girls’ School.
Newstead Wood School is a selective academy. It has about 1,260 girls aged between 11 and 18. In February 2022 the school was rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.
