Rick Margitza (born October 24, 1961) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Biography. Margitza's paternal grandfather, a Hungarian Gypsy violinist, taught him to play the violin at the age of four. His father also played violin with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

RICK MARGITZA. In his nine recordings as a leader, critically acclaimed saxophonist and composer Rick Margitza blends the traditions of modern jazz, the melodies of his Eastern European Gypsy heritage and the formal elements of twentieth-century classical music.
Bruce Martin: Synthesizer, Programming (1-3) Originally called Steps, when it first formed in 1979 by Mike, this group at various times has included saxophonist Michael Brecker, keyboardists Don Grolnick, Eliane Elis and Rachel Z, guitarist Mike Stern, bassists Eddie Gomez and Darryl Jones and drummers Peter Erskine and Steve Smith among others.
Unlike other Steps Ahead records, there are quite a few guests on various tracks including guitarists Steve Khan, Wayne Krantz, Jimi Tunnell and Chuck Loeb, electric bassist Victor Bailey and tenorman Rick Margitza. The music has spirit and drive.
