Carlos Gardel - el zorzal criollo, "the creole thrush" - is the supreme legend in the 120-year-old tradition of the Argentine tango. He was a popular singer of unquestionable distinction. ("I have never heard a voice more beautiful", Bing Crosby said of him) and he continues to have an enormous following more than sixty years after his death.
Carlos Gardel was the most acclaimed tango singer during the first quarter of 20th century. His voice was so musical, expressive and charming that every recording he made of tango music is considered definitve even nowadays.
