Robert Arkins is an Irish musician and actor who played the role of Jimmy Rabbitte in the 1991 film The Commitments. Life and career. A native of Drumcondra, Dublin, Arkins has been a professional musician from the age of 15. He left school at 17 to front his band, Housebroken.

Originally a founder member of the band Housebroken, who was signed to MCA, Robert sadly didn’t get his big break with the band running out of money before completing their debut album.
Set in the Northside of Dublin, the film tells the story of Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins), a young music fanatic who assembles a group of working-class youths to form a soul band named "The Commitments". The film is the first in a series known as The Barrytown Trilogy, followed by The Snapper (1993) and The Van (1996).
