Sir Ernest Joseph Cassel, GCB, GCMG, GCVO, PC (3 March 1852 – 21 September 1921) was a British merchant banker and capitalist. Born and raised in Prussia, he moved to England at the age of 17.

23 de abr. de 2020 · He was the first Jewish member of the House of Lords. Another was Sir Ernest Joseph Cassel, also of Jewish origin, though he became a Catholic in 1880. A renowned merchant banker and financier, Sir Ernest was young Winston’s mentor, financial consultant and lifelong friend.
Hall of Fame. Sir Ernest Cassel (1852-1921) was a German-born banker raised in the Ashkenazi Jewish faith who arrived penniless in Liverpool aged sixteen in 1869 and rose to become King Edward VII’s financial adviser and trusted friend.
Ernest Cassel had extensive business around the world. Among other things, he financed the first Aswan Dam in Egypt, as well as mines and railways in both South and North America. He also financed the first underground railway in London.
