  3. Shell plc (“Shell”) today announced that Ben van Beurden will step down as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the end of 2022, and that his successor will be Wael Sawan. Wael’s appointment is effective January 1, 2023*, when he will also join Shell’s Board of Directors.

  4. Ben van Beurden became a member of the Executive Committee in January 2013 as Downstream Director, with regional responsibility for Europe and Turkey. From 2014 to 2022 he was Chief Executive Officer of Shell plc (formerly Royal Dutch Shell plc). In this role he in particular promoted the transformation of Shell’s sustainability strategy.
