Fred Wilpon (born November 22, 1936) is an American real estate developer and former baseball executive. He was principal owner of the New York Mets from 1987 to 2020.
After his entanglement in the Madoff Ponzi scheme, the longtime Mets owner Fred Wilpon vowed to fight to keep his team. He did, but the scandal altered the course of his reign.
Fred Wilpon is Chairman, Co-Founder and Senior Partner of Sterling Equities. He is also a director on the board of the New York Mets and SportsNet New York.
