The National Film Registry (NFR) is the United States National Film Preservation Board's (NFPB) collection of films selected for preservation, each selected for its historical, cultural and aesthetic contributions since the NFPB's inception in 1988.

The films are selected each year for their cultural, historic or aesthetic importance to preserve the nation’s film heritage.
The National Film Registry represents a wide range of filmmaking, contexts, and histories from early cinema to contemporary films selected by the Librarian of Congress (in consultation with members the National Film Preservation Board) every December.
