He was a composer of much importance, being regarded as a forerunner of Palestrina, whose works were strongly influenced by those of Festa.

Born circa 1490, it is speculated that he spent some time studying in France, visited Ferrara in early March 1514 and lived in the bay of Naples between 1510 and 1517.
