The Shootist is a 1976 American Western film directed by Don Siegel and based on Glendon Swarthout 's 1975 novel of the same name, [2] and written by Miles Hood Swarthout (the son of the author) and Scott Hale.

In his time, the Shootist shot a lot of men dead. Out at the livery stable, burnt into the leather of his saddle, they find his name: J.B. Books. His arrival in Carson City immediately becomes news.
J.B. Books es un anciano y mítico pistolero aquejado de un cáncer de estómago al que sólo le restan dos meses de vida. Alquila una habitación con Bond Rogers y su hijo Gillom en Carson City para aguardar su fatal destino. Sin embargo su presencia en el pueblo desencadenará una serie de sucesos.
