The California native was a Delta Groove artist, and had a longstanding career in the blues, playing harmonica from early in his teens for bands and fronting his own longstanding outfit, the Lynwood Slim Band.

He also also plays flute, composes, and produces and engineer recordings. Slim started playing harmonica at 15. His early influences include Jimmy Reed, Little Walter and Big Walter Horton.
