George Savile, 1st Marquess of Halifax, PC, DL, FRS (11 November 1633 – 5 April 1695), was an English statesman, writer, and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1660, and in the House of Lords after he was raised to the peerage in 1668. Background and early life, 1633–1667.

29 de nov. de 2023 · George Savile was born in the well-connected Royalist family in Yorkshire. He was educated at Shrewsbury School and by a private tutor in France and Italy. Savile was returned for Pontefract to sit in the Convention Parliament of 1660. Seeking no reelection, he served as deputy lieutenant of the West Riding of Yorkshire.
