Alexander Hamilton, 10th Duke of Hamilton, 7th Duke of Brandon KG PC FRS FSA (3 October 1767 – 18 August 1852) was a Scottish politician and art collector.
30 de sept. de 2020 · The 10th Duke of Hamilton was remembered for his family pride and elevated sense of self-importance, and his burial provided a bizarre ending to the life of a man described in one obituary as ‘the proudest man in England’.
Between 1822 and 1824, the Glasgow architect David Hamilton and Alexander, 10th duke designed the now iconic north front. It was heavily influenced by Adam’s earlier proposal, but with a larger portico it was much more intimidating.
Douglas Alexander Hamilton believed himself to be the true heir to the Scottish throne. The great British public of the time believed him to be the most arrogant man in existence. In recognition of his own importance, the Duke commissioned an imposing mausoleum for his final resting-place.

The son of Archibald, 9th Duke of Hamilton and 6th Duke of Brandon, and his wife Lady Harriet Stewart, daughter of the 6th Earl of Galloway, Alexander Hamilton-Douglas succeeded his father as Duke in 1819.
