Stephen Fox-Strangways, 1st Earl of Ilchester PC (12 September 1704 – 26 September 1776) was a British peer and Member of Parliament. [1] Origins. Fox was the eldest surviving son of Sir Stephen Fox, the first Paymaster of the Forces, deemed the "richest commoner in the three kingdoms ", by his second wife Christiana Hope.

Stephen Fox-Strangways. Stephen Fox, later Stephen Fox-Strangways, 1st Earl of Ilchester (1704–1776) was a Whig member of Parliament and later peer. He was the son of Sir Stephen Fox and his second wife Christiana Hope.
On 19 July 1969, he married Margaret Elizabeth Miles, daughter of Geoffrey Miles, and they had two children: [4] Simon James Fox-Strangways, Lord Stavordale (1972–2018) Lady Charlotte Helen Fox-Strangways (born 1974), who had a career in nursing and married Stephen Hobin [4]
