Robert Stewart, 1st Marquess of Londonderry PC (Ire) (1739–1821), was a County Down landowner, Irish Volunteer, and member of the parliament who, exceptionally for an Ulster Scot and Presbyterian, rose within the ranks of Ireland's "Anglican Ascendancy."
History. The title was created in 1816 for Robert Stewart, 1st Earl of Londonderry. He had earlier represented County Down in the Irish House of Commons.
Part of the inscription on his tomb reads: ‘Ireland will never forget the statesman of the legislative union.’ He was succeeded, as 3rd marquess of Londonderry, by his half-brother, Charles Stewart (qv), who published his correspondence in twelve volumes between 1848 and 1853.

Robert Stewart, II marqués de Londonderry (18 de junio de 1769-12 de agosto de 1822), conocido en la historia como Lord Castlereagh, fue un estadista anglo irlandés .
On 13 January 1816, as a consequence of his son's glittering career as foreign secretary, Stewart was created marquess of Londonderry. Involved in much of the rebuilding of the house at Mount Stewart, Co. Down, he also oversaw the building of a ‘Temple of the Winds’ on a hill over Strangford Lough.
