George Berkeley, 1st Earl of Berkeley, PC, FRS ( c. 1628 – 10 October 1698) was an English merchant, politician and peer who sat in the House of Commons of England from 1654 until 1658. Life. Berkeley was the son of George Berkeley, 8th Baron Berkeley (d. 1658), and his wife, Elizabeth Stanhope, daughter of Sir Michael Stanhope.

Berkeley, George, 1st Earl Berkeley (1628 -1698) George Berkeley was the second but only surviving son of George Berkeley, 8th Lord Berkeley and Elizabeth, second daughter and coheir of Sir Michael Stanhope. Educated at Christ Church, Oxford, he succeeded his father as 9th Lord in 1658.
2 de may. de 2023 · On 23rd March 1685, George 1st Earl of Berkeley received a command to attend the coronation of the new monarch, King James II and Queen Mary of Modena on 23rd April 1685. George Berkeley had been given the Earldom of Berkeley by King Charles II in 1679 so this was the first time he would attend a coronation in the robes of an Earl.

George Berkeley (1685-1753) was an Anglo-Irish bishop and an empiricist and idealist philosopher. He infamously claimed that no matter exists outside of God and that things only exist outside of our minds and perceptions because God perceives them.
