  2. In 1838 his eldest son, George Brudenell-Bruce, 2nd Marquess of Ailesbury, was summoned to the House of Lords through a writ of acceleration in his father's junior title of Baron Bruce.

  3. Thomas Brudenell-Bruce was created Earl of Ailesbury in 1776, and his son Charles, 1st Marquess of Ailesbury in 1821. The 2nd Marquess succeeded a cousin as 8th Earl of Cardigan in 1868, but did not inherit the Deene (Northamptonshire) estate.
