Hugo Richard Charteris, 11th Earl of Wemyss and 7th Earl of March DL (25 August 1857 – 12 July 1937), styled Lord Elcho from 1883 to 1914, was a British Conservative politician.
The Hon. Martin Michael Charles Charteris, second son of the aforementioned Captain Hugo Francis Charteris, Lord Elcho, eldest son of the eleventh Earl, was private secretary to Queen Elizabeth II and was created a life peer as Baron Charteris of Amisfield in 1978.
Mary Constance Charteris, Countess of Wemyss and March ( née Wyndham; 3 August 1862 – 29 April 1937), styled Lady Elcho from 1883 to 1914, was an English society hostess and an original member of The Souls, an exclusive social and intellectual group.
Francis Charteris was born on 11 November 1844. 1 He was the son of Francis Richard Charteris, 10th Earl of Wemyss and Lady Anne Frederica Anson. 1 He died on 22 July 1870 at age 25, from an accident with a revolver, unmarried. 1
