  1. Aaron Venable [1] Brown (August 15, 1795 – March 8, 1859) was an American politician. He served as the 11th Governor of Tennessee from 1845 to 1847, and as United States Postmaster General from 1857 until his death in 1859. He also served three terms in the United States House of Representatives, from 1839 to 1845.

  2. He was narrowly edged out as the Democratic vice-presidential candidate in 1856, but when the Democratic ticket was successful, President James Buchanan tapped Brown as his postmaster general. Aaron Venable Brown served in this capacity from 1857 until his death in 1858.
