He married Lady Agnes Leslie, daughter of George Leslie, 4th Earl of Rothes and Margaret Crichton, on 19 August 1554. He died about 24 September 1606.

William Douglas, 6th Earl of Morton was born in 1539/40. He was the son of Sir Robert Douglas of Lochleven and Margaret Erskine. Elsewhere, in 1592, his age is given fairly precisely as 66. He married Lady Agnes Leslie, daughter of George Leslie, 4th Earl of Rothes and Margaret Crichton, on 19 August 1554. They had issue:

William Douglas, 6th Earl of Morton (c. 1540 – 1606) was the son of Robert Douglas of Lochleven and Margaret Erskine, a former mistress of James V of Scotland.
The Good Sir James's nephew William, Lord of Douglas was created 1st Earl of Douglas in 1358, and greatly increased Douglas territory by marrying Margaret, Countess of Mar.
When William Douglas 6th Earl of Douglas was born in 1423, in Douglas, Lanarkshire, Scotland, his father, Sir Archibald Douglas 5th Earl of Douglas, was 33 and his mother, Euphemia Graham, was 23.
