Anson Jones (January 20, 1798 – January 9, 1858) was a medical doctor, businessman, member of Congress, and the fourth and last president of the Republic of Texas.

17 de feb. de 2022 · Anson Jones, doctor, congressman, and the last president of the Republic of Texas, son of Solomon and Sarah (Strong) Jones, was born at Seekonkville, Great Barrington, Massachusetts, on January 20, 1798.
At first, Jones resisted becoming involved in the tensions between Texas and Mexico, but eventually he became a supporter of Texas independence. When the revolution came, Jones served as judge advocate and surgeon in the San Jacinto campaign. As Texas struggled to form a republic, Jones found himself drawn to politics.
Anson Jones arrived in Brazoria, a small settlement of about fifty families, on November 1, 1833. He was shocked to find the town grief-stricken from a cholera epidemic that had killed eighty people. Jones had no desire to relive the terrible experience he had had in New Orleans.
Physician and politician Anson Jones was the final president of the Republic of Texas, serving from 1844 to 1846. The United States annexed Texas (or made it part of the country) at the end of his term. Jones was born on January 20, 1798, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
Anson Jones threw off the failures of his early life to become one of the most essential leaders of early Texas, a master diplomat who guided Texas to annexation as the 28th state in the Union.
