Stanisław Franciszek Sosabowski CBE (Polish pronunciation: [staˈɲiswaf sɔsaˈbɔfskʲi]; 8 May 1892 – 25 September 1967) was a Polish general in World War II.
On September 1, 1939, when Hitler unleashed the Blitzkrieg on Poland, Sosabowski, now a colonel, was in command of the 21st Infantry “Children of Warsaw” Brigade. His unit was on a foot march from Warsaw to the Opingora area, 30 miles from the East Prussian frontier.
Born on the 6th May 1892, the 52 year old Stanislaw Sosabowski was a highly experienced soldier, having first been conscripted into the 58th Infantry Regiment of the Austrian Army, where he became a corporal and fought the Russians throughout the First World War. After the Armistice had been signed, he became a regular officer in the Polish Army.
