  3. On September 1, 1939, when Hitler unleashed the Blitzkrieg on Poland, Sosabowski, now a colonel, was in command of the 21st Infantry “Children of Warsaw” Brigade. His unit was on a foot march from Warsaw to the Opingora area, 30 miles from the East Prussian frontier.
