  4. The Hambleden Viscountcy was created by Queen Victoria to honour William Henry Smith Jr., who died in 1891. His widow, Emily Danvers Smith, was named 1st Viscountess Hambleden, and upon her death in 1913, their son William Frederick Danvers Smith became 2nd Viscount Hambleden.

  5. In recognition of her late husband’s public service, W.H. Smith’s wife Emily (1828-1913) was given the peerage Viscountess Hambleden in 1891. Their son, William Frederick Danvers Smith, succeeded his mother as the 2 nd Viscount Hambleden.
