Nikolaus Krell, zeitgenössisch auch Nicolaus Crell, (* um 1550 in Leipzig; † 9. Oktober 1601 in Dresden) war ab 1589 der calvinistische Kanzler des Kurfürsten Christian I. von Sachsen .
C. besuchte die Fürstenschule zu Grimma, später die Universität Leipzig, wo er 1572 Baccalaureus und 1575 Magister der Jurisprudenz wurde. Der fleißige und geistig regsame Student erwarb 1577 die Doktorwürde - unbekannt an welcher Universität - und beendete seine humanistischen Studien mit einer Bildungsreise nach der Schweiz und Frankreich.

As Chancellor, he had pursued pro-Calvinist policies and a foreign policy that turned away from loyalty to the Habsburgs, instead acting in concert with John Casimir, Henry IV of France and Elizabeth I of England.

Krell, nevertheless, believed himself sure of complete triumph. The territorial estates, nobles and public officers feared some prejudice to their vested rights. The elector had retrenched the official power of the former court positions and given Chancellor Krell almost unlimited power.
