George Henry Williams (March 26, 1823 – April 4, 1910) was an American judge and politician. He served as chief justice of the Oregon Supreme Court, was the 32nd Attorney General of the United States, and was elected Oregon's U.S. senator, and served one term.
George Williams campaigned for the election of Rutherford B. Hayes as President of the United States in 1876, established a law practice in Portland, Oregon, and ultimately served as mayor of Portland from 1902 to 1905. He died in 1910.

24 de oct. de 2022 · George Henry Williams was born in New Lebanon, New York, on March 26, 1823. He received an academic education, studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1844. He moved to Iowa and began practicing law at Ft. Madison. In 1847, he was elected judge of the first judicial district of the State.

George Henry Williams served as U.S. attorney general from 1871 to 1875. A state and territorial judge, as well as a U.S. senator, Williams was nominated to be chief justice of the United States by President ulysses s. grant in 1873, but he was never confirmed.
