Entertaining Comics, more commonly known as EC Comics, was an American publisher of comic books, which specialized in horror fiction, crime fiction, satire, military fiction, dark fantasy, and science fiction from the 1940s through the mid-1950s, notably the Tales from the Crypt series.
The letters EC originally stood for Educational Comics. EC's Pre-Trend titles are those published by M.C. Gaines and his son William Gaines, who took over the family business after his father's death in 1947. The New trend (1950-1955) Horror? Crime? Science Fiction? Morality twists? We got it!
EC’s glory (and gory) years were 1950-1955, when it mutated from Educational Comics to Entertaining Comics, stopped printing tame titles like Saddle Romances and Tiny Tot and shifted to Two-Fisted Tales and The Vault of Horror.
