11 de abr. de 2024 · Pierre Guérin de Tencin (born Aug. 22, 1679/80, Grenoble, Fr.—died March 2, 1758, Lyon) was a French statesman, cardinal, and anti-Jansenist of the 18th century. Tencin owed his quick advance to power to his sister, Claudine-Alexandrine Guérin de Tencin, influential mistress of a famed salon.

modifier. Pierre-Paul Guérin de Tencin, né le 22 août 1680 1 à Grenoble et mort le 2 mars 1758 à Lyon, fut cardinal, archevêque de Lyon et un homme politique sous Louis XV. C'est l'exemple même d'un abbé qui sut mêler la vie de cour avec un véritable engagement en faveur des pauvres, les intrigues avec la compassion.

The death of his profligate sister, Madame Tencin, on 4 Dec., 1749, removed the greatest spur of his political ambition, and in 1752 he retired to his See of Lyons.
