15 de abr. de 2024 · Gerardus Johannes Vossius (born 1577, near Heidelberg [Germany]—died March 19, 1649, Amsterdam [Netherlands]) was a Dutch humanist theologian, one of the foremost scholars of the Dutch Republic’s “Golden Age.” Vossius studied at Leiden, where he made a lasting friendship with the jurist and scholar Hugo Grotius.

Gerardus Joannes Vossius was born at Heidelberg in 1577. His father, Jan Vos, a protestant minister, migrated in the same year to Holland with his family, where he was soon called to pastorates at Leimuyden and Furnes and finally at Dordrecht.
