Hermann IV of Hesse (German: Hermann von Hessen; "the Peaceful", German: der Friedsame, Latin: Pacificus) (1442 – 27 September 1508) was the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne from 1480 to 1508 and the Prince-Bishop of Paderborn from 1498 to 1508.

Children of Philip I, divided the land between them: William IV received Kassel. Hermann Hesse was born in Calw in 1877, into a family of devout Christian missionaries whose work in China and India combined an international breadth of spirit with the narrow protestant piety of the small country town. 1 His family's bonds with the Orient influenced Hesse as strongly as did its fervent Christian faith.
