George Talbot, VI conde de Shrewsbury, murió el 18 de noviembre de 1590 y fue sobrevivido por su esposa Bess de Hardwick. George Talbot, 4th Earl of Shrewsbury, 4th Earl of Waterford, 10th Baron Talbot, KG, KB, PC (c. 1468 – 26 July 1538) was the son of John Talbot, 3rd Earl of Shrewsbury, and Lady Catherine Stafford, daughter of the 1st Duke of Buckingham.
As a young man George Talbot saw military service under Protector Somerset in the ‘Rough Wooings’ in Scotland and he married Gertrude Manners, daughter of the 1st Earl of Rutland, by whom he had six children, although she died in 1566.
Fue elegido entre los guardianes de María, reina de Escocia, cuando fue encarcelada por la reina Isabel I, en 1568, tras su huida a Inglaterra desde Escocia tras la desastrosa batalla de Langside. Ocupó el cargo durante unos 18 años.
