Eleonora Gonzaga (23 September 1598 – 27 June 1655), was born a princess of Mantua as a member of the House of Gonzaga, and by marriage to Ferdinand II, Holy Roman Emperor, was Holy Roman Empress, German Queen, Queen of Hungary and Bohemia.

14 de jul. de 2021 · Eleonora (known as the Younger) was born on 18 November 1630 as the daughter of Charles Gonzaga, Duke of Nevers – heir to the Duchy of Mantua, but he died before succeeding – and Maria Gonzaga, Duchess of Montferrat in her own right.
114 x 103 cm. Inventory. 1890 no. 919. This work was probably painted by Titian in the winter of 1536-1537, when the duchess was staying in Venice. It precedes - albeit by just a few months - the portrait of her husband, Francesco Maria I della Rovere, Duke of Urbino.

While he stands erect and linear, she sits, swathed in copious folds of costly fabric that suggest the rounded forms of her body. While he is active, she is passive, her containment within the domestic sphere affirmed by the window to her right.
Junto a doña Eleonora encontramos una mesa cubierta con un tapete verde sobre la que aparece un reloj - símbolo de la temperancia y del status social de la retratada - junto a un perro, símbolo de la fidelidad. El rostro de la duquesa es el centro de atención, mostrando su personalidad, su carácter.
