  6. He gained the rank of Major in 1920. He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1953. The 5th Marquess of Cholmondeley inherited Houghton Hall in Norfolk, which was built for Sir Robert Walpole. The Cholmondeley (Houghton) Papers were formerly held at Houghton Hall.
