Maria of Jever, known as Fräulein Maria in Jeverland, was the last ruler of the Lordship of Jever from the Wiemken family. She reigned from 1517 until her death on February 20, 1575. In 1531, Maria sought help from Emperor Charles V to protect her rule against local rivals.
5 de sept. de 2023 · But one of the things we do know a bit about is the life of Maria of Jever, who was born September 5, 1500. In Jever, in case there was any question about that. Jever is a town in northern Germany, and it’s still there — pretty well known, it’s said, for Jever Pilsner beer.
However Maria of Jever, the daughter of Edo restored the city's independence, and in 1536 whilst under her rule Jever received its city rights which has led to the city's unofficial title as "Marienstadt". Maria died in 1575 but her death was kept secret for fear of a return of the East Frisians.
