Louis I the Fair, also known as the Wise or the Righteous (Polish: Ludwik I Sprawiedliwy, Roztropny, or Prawy) or Louis I of Brzeg (Ludwik I brzeski; c. 1321 – 6/23 December 1398) was Duke of Legnica from 1342 to 1346 (jointly with his elder brother Wenceslaus I until 1345) and of Brzeg from 1358 until his death.

  5. St. Nicholas' Church in Brzeg is a Gothic basilica built between 1370 and 1420 during the reign of Louis I of Brzeg. He built it on the site of a former brick building, mentioned in sources from 1279. In 1523, the town of Brzeg experienced a Reformation. Prince Frederick II introduced the Lutheran religion into the principality.

  6. Architecture. The Brzeg Castle was located in the northwestern edge of the town, where it was in contact with the oval line of the city fortifications from two sides. Its exact appearance from the Middle Ages is not fully known.

  7. The aim of this work is to identify knights that were among the retinue of Duke Louis I of Brzeg and to analyse the meaning of the term miles (Ritter) in the landbuch Lehn und Erbe. This estate register, or landbuch, documents the reign of Louis I (died 1399) and includes entries from the period 1358–1366.
