Johann Tobias Mayer ( Gotinga, Alemania, 5 de mayo de 1752 — Gotinga, 30 de noviembre de 1830) fue un matemático, físico y astrónomo alemán, hijo del astrónomo y físico Tobias Mayer. Biografía. Era el hijo primogénito de Tobias Mayer (1723–1762) y Maria Victoria, de soltera Gnüg (1723–1780).

Mayer, born in Göttingen, was the first child of the astronomer Tobias Mayer and his wife Maria. The elder Mayer, a well-known Göttingen professor of geography, physics, and astronomy, died in 1762, when Johann was only ten.
Johann Tobias Mayer (born Feb. 17, 1723, Marbach, Württemberg—died Feb. 20, 1762, Göttingen) was a German astronomer who developed lunar tables that greatly assisted navigators in determining longitude at sea. Mayer also discovered the libration (or apparent wobbling) of the Moon.

Tobias Mayer (17 February 1723 – 20 February 1762) was a German astronomer famous for his studies of the Moon . He was born at Marbach, in Württemberg, and brought up at Esslingen in poor circumstances. A self-taught mathematician, he earned a living by teaching mathematics while still a youth.
