Everett Shinn (November 6, 1876 – May 1, 1953) was an American painter and member of the urban realist Ashcan School. Shinn started as a newspaper illustrator in Philadelphia, demonstrating a rare facility for depicting animated movement, a skill that would, however, soon be eclipsed by photography.

Hijo de unos campesinos cuáqueros, comenzó a dibujar con catorce años , inscribiéndose en el Instituto Spring Garden de Filadelfia, donde estudió entre 1888 y 1890.
Painter, illustrator and decorator. A member of The Eight, Shinn created a significant body of work in murals for private homes as well as for theaters; he often depicted life in the slums, café society and theater events.

Everett Shinn is best known for his theater scenes and images of the streets of New York City. Born in Woodstown, New Jersey, Shinn moved to Philadelphia where he studied engineering and industrial design at the Spring Garden Institute.
