Reginald John "Rex" Whistler (24 June 1905 – 18 July 1944) was a British artist, who painted murals and society portraits, and designed theatrical costumes. He was killed in action in Normandy in World War II. Whistler was the brother of poet and artist Laurence Whistler .
The Rex Whistler Archive (paintings, drawings, decorative arts, designs, photographs and letters, from his earliest output until his death) was purchased in 2013 by the Salisbury Museum so that it can be housed permanently.

Rex Whistler (1905–1944) National Army Museum. (b Eltham, Kent [now in Greater London], 24 June 1905; d nr. Le Mesnil, Normandy, 18 July 1944). British painter, graphic artist, and stage designer. He is best known for his decorations in a light and fanciful style evocative of the 18th century.

5 de dic. de 2023 · A life tragically cut short. Rex Whistler always intended to return to Plas Newydd after the Second World War to complete some of the unfinished details of the mural. Tragically, he was killed on his first day of active duty in France on 18 July 1944. Today you can visit the Whistler mural as part of your visit to the house.
