William Wycherley (baptised 8 April 1641 – 1 January 1716) was an English dramatist of the Restoration period, best known for the plays The Country Wife and The Plain Dealer.

14 de may. de 2018 · One of the foremost dramatists of the Restoration period, British author William Wycherley combined irreverent social satire and complex verbal wit to create comedies of lasting interest and appeal. His comedies ridiculed the manners and morals of sophisticated ladies and gentlemen who delighted in illicit intrigue.
I. Text. Wycherley has been the most fortunate of all late seventeenth-century dra- matists in his editors. His plays have been readily available in something close to state-of-the-art editions for 140 years now, starting with Leigh Hunt's in 1840.
