He was Hunterian Professor in 1905, a Member of the Court of Examiners from 1902-1911, Member of the Council from 1903 to the time of his death, and Senior Vice-President in 1912. In 1899 Dent went out to the South African War on his own initiative and acted as Correspondent to the *British Medical Journal*.
