Dom Afonso I of Braganza (Portuguese pronunciation:; 10 August 1377 – 15 December 1461) was the first duke of Braganza and the eighth count of Barcelos. He founded the House of Braganza, the most powerful and wealthy dynasty in Portugal.
The Duke of Braganza holds one of the most important dukedoms in Portugal, see Duchy of Braganza (Bragança). Created in 1442 by King Afonso V of Portugal for his uncle Afonso, Count of Barcelos (natural son of King John I of Portugal), it is one of the oldest fiefdoms in Portugal.

[ 1] Foi primeiramente sepultado na Igreja de Santa Maria Maior de Chaves, sendo trasladado depois para a Igreja de N.ª Sra. do Rosário no Convento de S. Francisco. Hoje repousa no Panteão dos Duques de Bragança da Igreja dos Agostinhos em Vila Viçosa, desde 1942. Casamento e posteridade.
