Its county seat is Christiansburg, and Blacksburg is the largest town. Montgomery County is part of the Blacksburg-Christiansburg metropolitan area. It is dominated economically by the presence of Virginia Tech, Virginia's third largest public university, which is the county's largest employer.
3 de ene. de 2020 · Blacksburg, Virginia, was founded in 1798 on a thirty-eight acre tract laid out and deeded by William Black, for whom the town was named. The original town was limited to a sixteen-block area bounded by present-day Draper Road, Jackson Street, Wharton Street, and Clay Street.
Blacksburg Founding. In 1772, Samuel Black purchased 600 acres in the Draper’s Meadow area. In 1792, he split the land between his two sons, John and William. In 1797, William laid out a small grid of streets, 16 blocks in all, on 38 and 3/4 of his land.
