Gerald FitzGerald, 8th Earl of Kildare KG (born c. 1456 – c. 3 September 1513), known variously as "Garret the Great" (Gearóid Mór) or "The Great Earl" (An tIarla Mór), was Ireland's premier peer. He served as Lord Deputy of Ireland from 1477 to 1494, and from 1496 onward.

Gerald succeeded as 8th Earl of Kildare on the death of his father in 1477, the same year becoming Lord Deputy of Ireland 1477 - 1494, and from 1496. In 1492 in his feud with the Butler's he burnt the Street of Sheep in Dublin [2] 1495 death of his wife Alice / Alison (Cokayne states that the marriage was set aside )

He was appointed Lord-Deputy to the young Duke of York; but was shortly dismissed, and Lord Grey appointed in his place, on the plea that an Englishman was more suited to the office.
