Der Heidekreis ist ein Landkreis im Land Niedersachsen. Er liegt fast vollständig in der Lüneburger Heide, nach der er benannt ist. Kreisstadt ist Bad Fallingbostel, die einwohnerstärksten Städte sind Walsrode und Soltau . Der Landkreis entstand am 1. August 1977 mit der Fusion der aufgelösten Landkreise Fallingbostel und Soltau.

Soltau (German pronunciation:) is a mid-sized town in the Lüneburg Heath in the district of Heidekreis, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It has around 22,000 inhabitants. The city is centrally located in the Lüneburg Heath and is known nationwide especially for its tourist attractions like the Heide-Park and the Soltau-Therme .
Rotenburg I – Heidekreis is located in northern Lower Saxony. As of the 2021 federal election, it comprises the entirety of the Heidekreis district, as well as the municipalities of Rotenburg an der Wümme, Scheeßel, and Visselhövede and the Samtgemeinden of Bothel, Fintel, and Sottrum from the Rotenburg district.
