Helen Burke, Countess Clanricarde (née MacCarty; c. 1641 – 1722), also styled Helen FitzGerald, was brought to France by her mother fleeing the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland, against which her father, the 2nd Earl Muskerry, resisted to the bitter end.
Burke married secondly to Helen, widow of Sir John FitzGerald of Dromana and daughter of Donough MacCarty, 1st Earl of Clancarty. [13] [14] The date of this marriage is constrained by the death of her first husband in 1662 or 1664 and the birth of their eldest son in about 1670.
Helen MacCarty Honora Burke became Honora FitzJames, Duchess of Berwick on Tweed ( c. 1675 – 1698), married Patrick Sarsfield and went into French exile where he followed her soon afterwards. After his death at the Battle of Landen , she married James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick , an illegitimate son of James II .

Birth and origins. Ulick was born about 1670 a younger son of William Burke and his second wife, Helen MacCarty. His father was the 7th Earl of Clanricarde. Ulick's mother was his father's second wife.
