Nacida como Ottoline Violet Anne Cavendish-Bentinck, era hija del teniente general Arthur Cavendish-Bentinck (hijo de Lord y Lady Charles Bentinck) y su segunda esposa, la inicialmente conocida como Augusta Browne, para la que más tarde se creó el título de baronesa Bolsover.
