Lichtensteig is a municipality in the Wahlkreis (constituency) of Toggenburg in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. History. Lichtensteig was founded by the counts of Toggenburg in the early 13th century, first mentioned in 1228 as Liehtunsteige. [3] . A market is mentioned in 1374, and the right to hold markets is confirmed in 1400. [4] .

Lichtensteig. Founded around 1200 by the Toggenburgers on a rock spur on the Thur. Since 1468 it has belonged to the Abbey of St. Gallen, since 1803 the district capital of Neutoggenburg. The old town has a semicircular shape and was originally protected by a moat and wall.

12 de abr. de 2023 · The village of Lichtensteig was founded at the beginning of the 13th century by the Counts of Toggenburg. There are mentions of the village market as early as the 14th century and a confirmation of the right to hold market that was established to be from 1400.
Toggenburg is a region of Switzerland. It corresponds to the upper valley of the river Thur [1] and that of its main tributary, the Necker. Since 1 January 2003, Toggenburg has been a constituency ( Wahlkreis) of the canton of St. Gallen ( SFOS number 1727).
