Louis IV (German: Ludwig IV. Großherzog von Hessen und bei Rhein; 12 September 1837 – 13 March 1892) was the Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine from 13 June 1877 until his death in 1892. Through his marriage to Queen Victoria's second daughter Alice, he was connected to the British royal family.

Princess Alice (Alice Maud Mary; 25 April 1843 – 14 December 1878) was Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine from 13 June 1877 until her death in 1878 as the wife of Grand Duke Louis IV. She was the third child and second daughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
Le grand-duc meurt le 13 juin 1877 et le prince lui succède sous le nom de Louis IV, grand-duc de Hesse et du Rhin. Inhumation [ modifier | modifier le code ] Louis IV de Hesse décède le 13 mars 1892 à l'âge de 54 ans. il est inhumé dans la crypte grand-ducale de Hesse , près de Darmstadt.
