Reutlingen ist seit 1989 eine der neun Großstädte Baden-Württembergs und von diesen die einzige kreisangehörige. Mit gut 117.000 Einwohnern ist sie, nach Ulm, die zweitgrößte Stadt im Regierungsbezirk Tübingen. In der Agglomeration Reutlingen-Tübingen leben etwa 280.000 Einwohner. [4]
