  2. 19 de jul. de 2021 · St Oswald's Priory is just a few minutes walk from the cathedral, situated in a public park just around the corner from St Mary de Lode church and Bishop Hooper's memorial. The site is open at any time, though when we visited there were fences in place due to safety concerns over falling masonry.

  3. St. Oswald's Priory was founded by Lady Aethelflaed of Mercia, daughter of Alfred the Great, around 900. The Priory Church, initially dedicated to St. Peter, was constructed from recycled Roman stones. At this time it was a bold and unusual move to build a church as there were frequent Viking raids.

  4. In the early 10th century, Bardney was in Viking territory, and in 909, following a combined West Saxon and Mercian raid led by Æthelflæd, daughter of Alfred the Great, St Oswald's relics were translated to a new minster in Gloucester, which was renamed St Oswald's Priory in his honour.

  5. St Oswald’s Priory, some historical ruins in Gloucester. St Oswald’s Priory is located close to Gloucester Cathedral on Archdeacon Street. The priory is easy to spot if walking towards the old Cattle Market site. I have passed many times and had a quick look, but this time.

  6. 8. THE PRIORY OF ST. OSWALD, GLOUCESTER. The minster of St. Oswald at Gloucester was founded and richly endowed by Ethelfleda, the Lady of the Mercians, and her husband Ethelred. In 909 they brought thither from the ruined monastery of Bardney the body of Oswald, king of Northumbria. Their church was served by a body of secular canons.

These are the ruins of the former Augustinian Priory of St Oswald. It was founded by St Athelflaed in c900. Major changes were made to it in the 12th and 13th centuries.
