Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Stuart Townend OBE (24 April 1909 – 26 October 2002) was a British military officer, athlete, headmaster, and politician. Townend was the first headmaster to educate an heir to the British throne, having founded Hill House School in 1949.

Biography. Stuart Townend is one of today’s leading worship songwriters. Hymns such as “In Christ alone”, “How deep the Father’s love” and “The power of the cross” are sung in churches around the world, while the skill and depth of his lyric writing has drawn some to compare his contribution to hymnody to that of Watts and Wesley.
